Construction Safety Net Types

Construction Safety Net Types

Construction safety net types are safety equipment that provide protection against the risk of falling at work sites where working at height is required. They are used in construction sites to minimize the risk of injury or death of workers.

Construction, by its nature, involves heavy labor and various risk factors. The health and safety of construction workers should be considered at the highest level. Statistics show that occupational accidents occur the most at work sites where working at height is required. Therefore, it is essential that safety equipment is used at sites where working at height is required. Construction safety net types are among the safety equipment.

What is a Construction Safety Net?

Construction net is safety system that has a flexible structure and can absorb the weight that fall on them. They are used at construction sites to prevent and/or weaken the damage that would stem from workers or equipment falling on them. They are installed below the height at which work is done. The flexibility of the construction net should be adjusted in accordance with the weight of the load falling on it and the falling distance. There should be sufficient distance under the construction net so that worker falling on it would not hit the ground.

Safety nets are designed to have square or diamond meshes. There are two different types of safety nets.

  • Knotted construction net
  • Knotless construction net

Knotted nets work by the principle of tightening the nodes when a load is placed on them. The tightening cannot be undone and the absorbing capacity of the net decreases. Knotless nets, on the other hand, do not have this problem. Also, a person falling on a knotless net is less likely to suffer from a facial injury.

There are four different construction safety net types produced conforming TS EN 1263-1 standards:

  • System S Construction Safety Net: Safety net installed horizontally with a selvedge cord
  • System T Construction Safety Net: Safety net installed horizontally and attached to consoles
  • System U Construction Safety Net: Safety net installed vertically and attached to supporting structure
  • System V Construction Safety Net: Safety net with selvedge cord and attached to scaffold-like supporting structure
